So on Thursday, I got out of class around 2:30 and was looking for something to do. I called my friend George, who I had not seen in a while. I was met with the response: “I’m going to the quarry. I’ll pick you up in 5 minutes. Put on hiking shoes.”
We went to the Eno Quarry which is a 4-acre quarry from where rock was removed back in the 60s to build I-85. Now it’s a popular hiking and swimming area – in the Summer. Don’t be fooled by the picture. We were there on January 20th where it was a rather chilly 40 degrees outside, who knows how cold it was in the water.
… Character Building was what he called it. I was the designated documentarian and if need be, the designated 911 caller. Thank goodness that didn’t happen. He jumped in (twice) and all was good because he didn’t last more than a minute each time.
Overall it was a fun experience. Who knew we would go to the quarry in mid-January? Also, it was great being able to hike because that’s something we usually do here in the Spring or Fall.
It’s an adventurous semester so far! Let the games begin.
